It’s All Bright Lights, Stardom, & Romance in BEYOND THE LIGHTS Trailer
October 9th, 2014
It seems that at least once every year or so, there is a romantic film that embodies the same story line: a famous man or woman falls in love with someone who is not famous and then the “chick flick” assumption ensues. Fortunately, Beyond the Lights seems as though it’ll be just a bit different than the typical “girl likes boy” and vice versa story line.
Released on November 14th, Beyond the Lights centers on, according to the official Facebook page, Noni (Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Belle), the music world’s latest superstar. But not all is what it seems, and the pressures of fame have Noni on the edge – until she meets Kaz Nicol (Nate Parker, The Great Debaters), a young cop and aspiring politician who has been assigned to her. Drawn to each other, Noni and Kaz fall fast and hard, despite the protests of those around them who urge them to put their career ambitions ahead of their romance. But it is ultimately Kaz’s love that gives Noni the courage to find her own voice and break free to become the artist she was meant to be.
Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball), the film also stars Minnie Driver (Good Will Hunting), Aml Ameen (The Maze Runner), Danny Glover (Lethal Weapon), Aisha Hands (The Next Three Days), Hayley Marie Norman (Fired Up!), Jordan Belfi (Surrogates), and Tyler Christopher (General Hospital). Truthfully, I have a feeling that this film is going to be extremely successful just based on the acting. Mbatha-Raw definitely made a splash with her performance in 2013’s Belle and I believe that Beyond the Lights will only rank her higher among today’s top not actresses.
I have been a fan of Parker’s since 2007’s The Great Debaters and it looks like he will play the role of Kaz with the same passion as he did in that film. Driver and Glover are pretty much acting royalty and I know they will be nothing less than amazing in Beyond the Lights. The rest of the cast seems great and honestly, the film looks stupendous. Be sure to see the film when it’s released on November 14th.
